Chapter 4 : “Apologize to her.”

Editor : Theatrical Idiot

On Wednesday, the warehouse manager said that the first batch of waste could be discharged the next day, and comrade Wang Zengqi was very happy to hear that.

She left the warehouse and went to the small garden nearby, and called Tan You. Comrade Wang Zengqi grew anxious when she did not pick up the call. It was only when the phone hung up and some time passed, did Tan You call her back.

“Hello?” Tan You’s voice sounded a little confused.

Comrade Wang Zengqi cleared her throat, lowered her voice and said, “I’m Wang Zengqi.”

The person on the other side was briefly stunned, then vaguely started to giggle, and laugh for a while.

Jiaxin patiently listened to her laughter which sounded like a wind chime swaying in the wind. She felt as if a flower was blooming inside her heart.

Once the laughter faded away, and Tan You spoke with a clear voice, with a smile on her lips: “What is it? Great writer.”

“Didn’t you ask me to notify you in advance? I’m thinking of transporting the goods tomorrow.” Jiaxin said.

“Yes, so I can arrange the trip in advance.” There was a rustle on the other side, then Tan You continue, “At what time shall I come?”

“It’s alright at any time.” After Xing Jiaxin finished speaking, she added, “Coming in the morning is better.”

In the morning, her make up would be the most perfect! And, In the soft morning light, she would definitely look more beautiful! So morning is the best!

“Okay,” Tan You promised, “I’ll be there at half past eight.”

Xing Jiaxin really liked her quick response: “Call me when you arrive near the warehouse.”

That day, Jiaxin hurried home after work again.

The postcard prepared by Zhang Ming was still not sent, and all the members in the wechat group started speculating that the goddess must be in love.

That night, Jiaxin overturned her closet, took out all her clothes, tried them one by one, and after hours of contemplation, she finally picked one.

Now, the next step was to try on the makeup. The makeup should not be thick enough to be obvious nor too light to make people feel obscure. But she should make sure her eyes looked big and bright, which would tempt one to take a peek at her eyes.

She, who rarely took any pictures of herself, found herself trying all sorts of angles today, and she tossed till midnight. She had no friends whom she could talk to and didn’t like social media either. So, she could only give advice to herself.

Her joy and anxiety could not be shared with others either.

The next day, the alarm clock rang loudly. Xing Jiaxin rolled over her bed and woke up.

She had already planned the countless steps in her mind last night, so she followed them one by one. She had woken up early to get ready, so when she was done with her makeup, hair, and clothes, she still had ample time left in her hands.

Unfortunately, Jiaxin, who had planned everything meticulously, had forgotten to add “time to eat breakfast” to her plan. By the time she realized that, she took a look at her perfect lip makeover in the mirror, and finally gave up on her breakfast.

So, Jiaxin travelled in her e-car on an empty stomach, and reached the institute early in the morning.

She had the key to the laboratory but she didn’t have the key to the warehouse.

This was way earlier than the standard working hours, so there was no one present in the warehouse. Xing Jiaxin held the phone in her hand, making sure the volume was at max, and glanced at it every few minutes. There was no call or message, and Jiaxin tried to calm herself down.

She stood in front of the warehouse and looked in the distance. From here, she could see a wide view and the hazy outline of the green mountains.

In winter, the sun rose  late, so it was still very dark in the morning. The shape of the mountain was hidden in the thick fog, looking like a splash of ink in a tranquil landscape painting.

Her fingertips were freezing, so Jiaxin rubbed her hands together. Little clouds of white mist formed when she blew her hand. She stuffed her phone into her pocket and shivered a little as she watched the morning light gradually break through the back of the mountain.

When Uncle Ku Guan arrived, he let her inside the warehouse to wait. Jiaxin thanked him, but continued standing  outside near the door.

Jiaxin glanced at her phone again. The uncle brought her a cup of hot water, so she put her phone aside and held it. The warm cup spread the heat from her palms to her limbs, and made her feel more comfortable.

But she did not dare to drink in case her lipstick smudged.

Her phone didn’t ring, but when the sun shone brightly, an orange truck slowly drove near the warehouse in the morning light. Xing Jiaxin stood on her tiptoes and looked around.

The front of the truck was too high, and the distance was a little far, so she could not see the face of the driver. The truck stopped, and the door opened. A person with sneakers and jeans combined with a leather jacket, met her face and smiled brightly.

Xing Jiaxin greeted her quickly and opened her mouth. “Why didn’t you call me?”

Tan You’s hand in her pocket took out her mobile phone and shook it in front of her: “I was just about to get off the truck and call you.”

“Oh,” Xing Jiaxin responded and felt she was too impatient, and was a little at a loss.

Tan You’s eyes were too bright, and she always felt that she could see and understand everything, so Jiaxin didn’t even dare to look at her. Her eyes darted away and finally landed on the water glass in her hand.

“You should drink some water.” Xing Jiaxin passed the water glass to her.

Tan You paused, and her brows slightly raised.

“I didn’t drink it,” Xing Jiaxin explained, and then found that the cup in her hand was a little cold, and turned to the office next to her in regret, “I’ll change the cup for you—”

She didn’t finish speaking, before a hand suddenly stretched out and took the cup in her hand.

Tan You’s movements were fast, and before Xing Jiaxin could see clearly, the colors merged and were distinct when the two hands were intertwined momentarily.

‘The wheat-colored skin’, Xing Jiaxin thought in her heart, ‘it looked so beautiful.’ Rea d On Yu ri Tran slations♡

Tan You drank in large mouthfuls, extremely fast, gulped the water twice, and drank it all. The disposable paper cup was handed back to Xing Jiaxin. Xing Jiaxin held the paper cup and was flustered. Should she hold onto the paper cup, or throw it away?

“Where are the goods?” Tan You opened her mouth.

Jiaxin was stunned and then ran to the office next to her. She asked the Uncle by the window: “Sir, where are the waste?”

Uncle Ku Guan walked to the window and looked out: “Here,” He pointed to a direction. “Warehouse No. 3, drive over there.”

The uncle’s voice was loud, and without Xing Jiaxin’s reply, Tan You got in the car and drove to the No. 3 warehouse. Jiaxin stuffed the paper cup in her hand into the uncle’s hand, turned around, and prepared to run over to Tan You.

“The key, how can you open the door without it?” The uncle shouted, smiled and simply came out himself. “Forget it, you little girl, I’ll come to open the door.”

And so, the date which was originally planned  by Xing Jiaxin now added a chubby uncle.

Although Xing Jiaxin knew most of the procedures for disposing of the scraps and she had no idea what the scraps looked like, In the past two days, she was thinking of all the things related to Tan You in her mind. Did she really care about the wastes? No, it was just an excuse to meet up with Tan You!

But now this excuse had become a burden for Tan You because Jiaxin did not make it clear in advance and Tan You had only one other person on the truck. While the scraps were not very heavy, it was not light either. This was the reason why the warehouse management wouldn’t transport it by themselves.

Uncle Ku Guan brought a wheelbarrow. Tan You took off her jacket, rolled up the sleeves of her shirt, and did what he said. Xing Jiaxin came forward in her high heels, wearing a beige coat, and long hair curled up behind her. She followed Tan You for a bit  to help, but was glared at by Tan You.

“You stand aside,” Tan You said without turning her head back, “It won’t be good if you get dirty.”

Time after time, Xing Jiaxin’s guilt accumulated more and more. She wanted to look at Tan You, cherish every minute and every second she could see her, but she could not bear to look at her suffering because of her.

As her heart burned, Xing Jiaxin turned her head and saw a boy standing outside the warehouse.

The boy looked a bit familiar. Judging from his outfit, he should be one among the graduate students who had come for an internship.

The boy looked at her and turned his head, but he didn’t leave. Xing Jiaxin waited for two seconds. When she saw that he really seemed to have nothing to do, she called and waved at him: “Hello-“

The boy looked up instantly.

Jiaxin hated such a fixated look, but adding another person would lessen Tan You’s work, so this boy would at least be helpful in carrying the machine for her.

“Can you do me a favor?” Xing Jiaxin asked. Her voice was not very loud, but the boy heard it and quickly ran over.

“Senior sister, what’s the matter?” the boy asked.

Now that he called her senior sister, she will not have any problem asking her junior brother to help. Xing Jia said, “Junior brother, can you help me move these things into the truck?”

The boy immediately turned his head and looked at the pile of scrap: “These?”

“Yes.”

“Okay.” Without a word, the boy squatted down to pick up a heavy piece of equipment.

Tan You was right there, stacking things on the cart, and saw it: “Don’t rush to do that. Put the small one on this. That one is too big. Be careful, we can pull it on the next trip.”

Zhang Ming ran into the goddess, and then the passion of being spoken to by the goddess was suddenly put out by this voice. This was a somewhat low, deep female voice, but it was a female voice after all.

When he turned his head and saw the source of the sound, the passion was extinguished and a fire rose in his heart. This girl was almost as tall as him, but was much thinner than him. Wearing only a thin shirt, her forearms were exposed, and her slender figure looked as if she had the ability to throw a lump of iron on a tall trolley with a single raise of her hand.

If he, Zhang Ming, was instructed by this girl in front of the goddess, his power would most certainly be doubted and wouldn’t that be too shameful? Zhang Ming ignored her and continued to pull the equipment. The result was that the things above the machine fell down.

The girl glanced at him and said nothing. She piled up her stuff, and pushed the cart away.

Zhang Ming finished cleaning up the equipment and continued to work hard. He lifted up the machine, but the place he was holding was too angular, cutting his fingers like a knife. Zhang Ming had to put it down again and find another place to start.

The goddess was standing behind him, too beautiful, and he was resolute that even if he abolished these two arms today, he would still show his male charm.

When Tan You returned with the cart, the boy was still working on the equipment.

It was brought out of the waste dump, but even after so long, it was moved only two to three meters. Tan You glanced at him up and down. He was dressed very fashionably, and he looked like an intellectual college student.

She didn’t know if his mind was good at studying, but it seemed that it was not good at using common sense.

Tan You pushed the cart over, then stood opposite to him and bent down. This was originally what she should be doing. The boy came to help, and she definitely couldn’t let others get hurt.

Unexpectedly, just as she raised the side with her hands, the boy not only did not tacitly agree with her to lift the equipment onto the trolley, but he suddenly withdrew his hand.

“Boom!” made a sound.

“What are you doing?” The boy stared at her, “You put it down!”

Yo, kind of fierce. Rea d On Yu ri Tran slations♡

Tan You let go of the machine in her hand obediently, straightened up, looked at the boy, and then at the pretty girl standing next to him. She curled her lips and smiled.

Okay, she got it. This was a matter of man’s pride.

Tan You left the cart in front of the boy, and walked aside step by step, leaving enough space for the boy to display his strength. But the beautiful girl Wang Qi suddenly spoke a sentence: “What are you doing?”

The voice was not high or cold, but her tone seemed to be angry. Tan You didn’t look back. At this time, she would better hide and just take a break. But the girl’s next sentence made her unable to hide.

“Apologize to her.” There was a loud voice.

Tan You turned her head. The girl’s willow eyebrows frowned, and her eyes were matched with an angry expression, which was a very different expression than the one she usually expressed. Tan You was a little surprised.

In the two encounters she had with this girl, the girl made her feel like she was very easy to get along with. She even joked about her name smoothly, and kept playing with her again and again.

But then, when she thought about it, she had first met this girl outside the supermarket on a rainy day. At that time, this girl was full of guard, like a frozen hedgehog, whom even she did not dare to approach.

This contradictory look reminded her of a certain someone…
